Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) is a private liberal arts university located in Quito, Ecuador. In addition to the main campus located in Cumbayá, USFQ has a satellite campus and research station in the Galápagos Islands and a biological field station “Tiputini Biodiversity Station” in the Amazon basin.

Course Description

This course is designed to present students from all areas with a basic introduction to the study of cultural anthropology. The course includes an overview of the object and method of study of Cultural Anthropology. Course Description

In this course we will learn the basic functions of an ecosystem, biodiversity, climate change, sustainability and conservation of biodiversity in Ecuador. To do this we will start by understanding the basic concepts of ecology in order to understand the patterns of biodiversity. We will talk about the bioregions of Ecuador, the resources available, its threats and climate change. Finally, we will use all this knowledge to understand the importance of sustainability and biodiversity conservation. One of the fundamental bases to guarantee the development of a society is the rational and sustainable use of renewable natural resources. Particularly in a country with such an agricultural, forestry and marine vocation as Ecuador with an enormous biological and ecological diversity. During the course, we will have a field trip where the acquired knowledge will be demonstrated and put into practice.

Course Description

The course ‘Basic German 2’ is aimed at the student (adolescent or adult) of any nationality, who wants to learn German in order to communicate in this language, and to become familiar with the culture and daily way of life. The course consists of sections: an initial short review section of the previous level, Basic German 1, which will serve to get all Basic German students 2 to the level required. A second section is composed of 6 lessons of didactic material, with their respective exercises and audio activities, to practice phonetics, and oral and written production and comprehension. During the course, the student will be introduced to the German language in a gradual and systematic way, combining the learning of grammar with dynamic interaction through an essentially communicative approach from the first day. The linguistic content will provide basic German learning, with priority given to the teaching of the present and past tenses. Information about German speaking countries, their people and their customs, is present in all the material used, stimulating intercultural reflection.

Course Description

The course ‘Basic Italian 1’ is aimed at foreign students, adolescents or adults, for the comprehension and production of written and verbal texts at the elementary level. The course covers the 4 skills (speaking, writing, reading, listening), and aims to enable the student to cope with situations in daily life that include greetings, as well as verb conjugation in the present and future indicative, prepositions, and learning the most frequent words in the Italian language. The course will also provide, and allow students to interact with, relevant aspects of Italian culture. The course will also have state-of-the-art and appropriate didactic materials to ensure better feedback. The course is taught in Italian from the first day of class. This course will reach the Italian A1 level.
