| Nov 20, 2023 I 4-5:30pm Beijing Time (UTC+8) Since its adoption of the “reform and opening-up” policy in the late 1970s, China has experienced enormous changes and made numerous great achievements which attract worldwide attention. As one of the key growth engines of Chinese economy, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), formerly called the Pearl River Delta, has been playing a critical role in exploring, experimenting and promoting the country’s socio-economic development over the years. First, the speaker will briefly introduce the geographical settings and characteristics of China, as well as the distribution of population, resources and economic activities which highly depends on the geography, illustrating the great importance of eastern coastal region, especially the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta, in the development of Chinese economy. Second, in the context of the development path of the People’s Republic of China over the past seven decades, the speaker will review, summarize and discuss how the GBA has transformed from the traditional farm land to the internationally renowned “world factory” and then become the “Silicon Delta” nowadays through Industrial upgrading and economic transformation. Over the past four decades, as an unprecedented miracle of urban development in human history, Shenzhen has been playing a unique and leading role in the rapid socio-economic development of GBA, becoming a world-class city of innovation and hub of high-end manufacturing. Finally, with reference to the national development strategy and the outline development plan of the GBA, the speaker will discuss the grand prospects and promising future of the region’s sustainable development from social, economic and environmental perspectives. |

| Nov 24, 2023 I 4-5:30pm Beijing Time (UTC+8) In this talk, Professor Jian Wang will give the participants a brief introduction to China's economic reforms in the last 40 years, its current challenges and future directions. About the speaker Jian Wang is a professor of economics at the School of Management and Economics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Before joining CUHKSZ, Professor Jian Wang was a senior research economist and advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. His primary research interests include international finance, monetary economics, international trade and behavioral finance/economics. He has worked on the topics such as optimal exchange rate policy, the exchange rate pass-through, the exchange rate determination and international transmission of shocks. His articles have appeared in publications such as Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, and the Federal Reserve's official publications. Professor Jian Wang's research has been reported in media such as the Wall Street Journal, VoxEU and Dow Jones. |

| Jan 25, 2024 to Feb 29, 2024 Thursday 5-6:30pm Pacific Standard Time (UTC-8) Throughout the synchronous virtual sessions, students will gain global skills and understanding that will help prepare them to be leaders in a global world. Sessions will be facilitated by UC Davis Global Affairs staff and they will be interactive, with discussions, activities, and reflections. Because participation will be limited to a small number of students (30-40) from across the APRU network, students will be able to make connections across the Asia-Pacific region and engage meaningfully with their peers. We welcome a range of majors and backgrounds as these global skills are important regardless of your future career path.

| Open to all students from APRU member universities. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis, although we will also ensure that there is a balance of participants from different APRU institutions. Additionally, if you are selected, you must commit to attending all five synchronous online sessions in the series. Application opens on October 23, 2023 and closes on November 20, 2023. |
