In this talk, Professor Jian Wang will give the participants a brief introduction to China's economic reforms in the last 40 years, its current challenges and future directions.

About the speaker
Jian Wang is a professor of economics at the School of Management and Economics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Before joining CUHKSZ, Professor Jian Wang was a senior research economist and advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. His primary research interests include international finance, monetary economics, international trade and behavioral finance/economics. He has worked on the topics such as optimal exchange rate policy, the exchange rate pass-through, the exchange rate determination and international transmission of shocks. His articles have appeared in publications such as Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, and the Federal Reserve's official publications. Professor Jian Wang's research has been reported in media such as the Wall Street Journal, VoxEU and Dow Jones.

In this talk, Professor Xing Wen will introduce the art and culture of Chinese calligraphy from the perspective of its major scripts.

About the speaker
XING Wen is Presidential Chair Professor of traditional Chinese art and culture at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Robert 1932 and Barbara Black Professor in Asian Studies, Emeritus, Dartmouth College. He received China’s most prestigious national award in Fine Arts, the 2nd quinquennial China Fine Arts Award 中国美术奖in 2014 and authored six books on Chinese calligraphy and painting, such as Hiding the Tip: Gateway to Chinese Calligraphy (2014) and 楚简书法探论 (2015).
